YOS — a prototype of a secure Russian-language operating system based on the A2 project

The YOS project develops a branch of the A2 operating system, also known as Bluebottle and Active Oberon. One of the main goals of the project is to radically implement the Russian language throughout the system, including (at least partial) translation of source texts into Russian. YOS can run as an application in a window under Linux or Windows, as well as an independent operating system on x86 and ARM hardware (supporting Zybo Z7-10 and Raspberry Pi 2 boards). The code is written in Active Oberon and distributed under the BSD license.

The project serves as a foundation for the development of Russian-language programming concepts, enhancing comfort in working with Cyrillic and the Russian language, and testing various approaches to terminology and depth of translation in practice. Unlike existing Russian-language programming languages such as 1C, Kumir, and Glagol, the project aims to provide an operating system entirely in Russian, including a translated bootloader, kernel, compiler, and drivers. In addition to the localization of the system, differences from A2 include a step-by-step debugger, cross-compilation, a working implementation of type SET64, bug fixes, and expanded documentation.

The A2 operating system, used as a basis, falls into the category of educational-industrial single-user OS and is applied for microcontrollers. The system provides a multi-window graphical interface, is equipped with a network stack and a cryptographic library, supports automatic memory management, and can perform tasks in soft real-time mode. Instead of a command interpreter, the system offers a built-in environment for executing code in Active Oberon, operating without unnecessary layers.

Fejlesztők számára integrált fejlesztési környezet, űrlapszerkesztő, fordító és hibakereső eszközök állnak rendelkezésre. A kód megbízhatósága formális hitelesítéssel és beépített egységtesztelési lehetőségekkel biztosítható. Az egész rendszer forráskódja körülbelül 700 ezer sorra terjed ki (összehasonlításképpen a Linux 5.13 magja 29 millió sor kódot tartalmaz). A rendszerhez olyan alkalmazások készültek, mint a multimédiás lejátszó, képkilátó, TV-tuner, kódszerkesztő, http-szerver, archívumkezelők, üzenetküldő és VNC-szerver a grafikus környezet távoli eléréséhez.

A ЯОС szerzője, Denis Valeryevich Budyak előadást tartott, amelyben a biztonságos információs rendszerekre, különösen a Linuxra helyezte a hangsúlyt. Az előadás a 2021-es Oberon Hét keretében jelent meg. A további előadások programját PDF formátumban közzétették.
