A U-boot bootloader, primarily used in embedded devices, integrates a TCP stack and enables remote loading with the delivery of boot images using the HTTP protocol. Previously, remote loading over the network could only use UDP-based protocols such as TFTP and NFS. It is expected that support for HTTP loading will significantly simplify the development of embedded systems, as HTTP servers are more common and familiar to developers.
A new wget command has been added to U-boot for loading images over HTTP. To activate the TCP stack and the wget command, configuration parameters CONFIG_PROT_TCP, CONFIG_PROT_TCP_SACK, and CONFIG_CMD_WGET are suggested in the configuration file. Future plans include implementing support for HTTPS and integration with UEFI HTTP boot.
