November 14 saw the release of Blender 4.0.
Transitioning to the new version will be smooth, as there are no significant changes to the interface. Therefore, most training materials, courses, and guides will remain relevant for the new version.
The main changes include:
🔻 Snap Base. You can now easily set a base point when moving an object by using the B key. This allows for quick and precise snapping from one vertex to another.
🔻 AgX – a new way to manage color that is now standard. This update allows for more efficient color processing in areas with high exposure compared to the previous Filmic. Notably, improvements are visible in the rendering of bright colors, bringing them closer to white, similar to real cameras.
🔻 Redesigned Principled BSDF. Most parameters can now be collapsed for easier management. Changes include the handling of Sheen, Subsurface scattering, IOR, and others.
🔻 Light and Shadow Linking. This feature allows you to customize lighting and shadows for each object in the scene individually.
🔻 Geometry Nodes. You can now specify a repeat area, which can repeatedly generate a given node tree. A setting has also been added for working with sharpness in nodes.
🔻 Node-Based Tools. An accessible way to create tools and addons without using Python is now available. Node systems can now be used as operators directly from the 3D view menu.
🔻 Modifiers. The 'Add Modifier' menu has been changed to a standard list menu and expanded to include custom modifiers from the geometry node assets group. This change has received mixed reviews and currently does not seem very user-friendly.
In addition to these changes, improvements have also been made in rigging, pose library, bone handling, and sok egyéb.
Blender 4.0 is available for download on the official website.
