Douglas DeMaio, a SUSE manager responsible for marketing and community engagement for openSUSE, announced a decision to hold a supplementary vote for the logo, in response to criticism from project participants regarding the voting process and the lack of an option to retain the current logo. The logo competition considered votes from all interested parties, regardless of their involvement in development, meaning even individuals with no connection to openSUSE could participate, which did not fully account for the collective identity of the developers.
During the discussion, it was suggested to provide openSUSE project participants the opportunity to influence the choice of a new logo. It was also mentioned that SUSE, the company holding the rights to the current logo, should participate in the decision-making process regarding rebranding and trademark issues. Ultimately, it was decided to allow project participants to express their opinions, for which a separate vote will be held among openSUSE members to choose between the existing logo and the proposed new design.
