A Fedora Engineering Steering Committee (FESCo), responsible for the technical part of the distribution development, decided on March 5 to remove support for the X11 session from the default installation of Fedora 41. Now, only Wayland will remain by default.
The installation support for X11 remains available from the repositories as a package gnome-session-xsession.
The main reason for discontinuing X11 support in Fedora is the transition of the X.Org server to the outdated category in RHEL 9 and the decision to remove it in RHEL 10.
