The Hyprland compositing server and its associated packages, such as hyprland-protocols and hyprutils, have been removed from the Debian Testing repository and will not be included in the stable release of Debian 13, which is in its final preparation stage. The packages with Hyprland are retained in the Debian Unstable branch.
The reason for excluding Hyprland from the next stable release was a request from the maintainer, who stated that the version of Hyprland 0.41.2 provided in the Debian package is significantly outdated compared to the current version (0.49) and that supporting the old version throughout the lifecycle of Debian 13 is impossible. The Hyprland project is actively developed and regularly releases new versions with changes that break backward compatibility. Maintaining the old version of Hyprland by the Debian package maintainer under these circumstances is greatly complicated.
The old version of Hyprland has a problem that causes the compositing server to crash in Debian Testing when switching virtual terminals. A compositing server crashes when switching between monitors. The Hyprland maintainer has elevated the status of this issue to that of blocking the release of Debian 13 and requiring a mandatory fix. However, resolving the problem without updating the Hyprland version or dependencies is not possible, and updating the versions is impossible due to the strict freeze of the Debian Testing repository state before the release (updating might introduce regressions).
Kompozit szerver Hyprland is designed for tiling window management but also supports classic arbitrary window placement, tabbed window grouping, pseudo-tiling mode, and fullscreen window expansion. Features include dynamically created virtual desktops; various element layout modes on the screen; global hotkey handling; touchpad/screen gesture control; tools for visually rich interfaces (gradients in window borders, background blur, animation effects, and shadows); and extension via plugins. Configuration is managed through a configuration file that can be modified on-the-fly without a restart.
