A Linux kernelbe javasolt a DRBD 9 elosztott replikálható blokkeszköz beépítése.

A Linux kernel patch set has been proposed for the implementation of the distributed replicated block device DRBD 9, which allows the creation of a RAID-1 array made up of network-mirrored storage devices connected to different systems. The driver is initially planned to be tested in the linux-next branch and prepared for integration into the Linux kernel 7.2.

The old version of DRBD has been included in the kernel since version 2.6.33, released 16 years ago. The existing kernel code is based on the DRBD 8 branch, which is significantly different from the DRBD 9 branch released in 2015 and is not protocol-compatible. As a result, the DRBD 9 branch has evolved as a separate external module, not synchronized with the module in the main kernel. The existing implementation of DRBD in the kernel has been maintained separately and is 10-15 years behind the current DRBD code base. The proposed patches are created to close the gap that has formed.

Amikor a meghibásodott csomópont újra elérhetővé válik, annak állapota automatikusan naprakészre kerül.

The cluster forming the storage can consist of up to 32 nodes, located both in a local network and in geographically dispersed data centers. Synchronization in such distributed storage systems is performed in the form of a mesh network — data is distributed in a chain from node to node. Node replication can be done either in synchronous mode or asynchronously. For example, locally placed nodes can use synchronous replication, while nodes in remote locations may implement asynchronous replication with additional compression and encryption of traffic.

A DRBD 9 ág a szállítási szint absztrakciójával különbözik, lehetővé téve kommunikációs csatornák megvalósítását nemcsak TCP/IP felett, hanem RDMA/Infiniband használatával is. A hagyományos IP-hálózaton való működéssel összehasonlítva, a másik számítógép RAM-jához való közvetlen hozzáférés integrálásával RDMA (Remote Direct Memory Access) révén megduplázható a replikáció teljesítménye a CPU 50%-os terheléscsökkentésével. A szinkronizált tároló maximális mérete 32 csomópontra nőtt. A DRBD 9-ben a csomópontok re-szinhronizálási logikája is megváltozott, a zármechanizmus átdolgozásra került, hozzáadva a hálózati névtér támogatását, automatikus csomópont-állapotbeállítást az aktivitástól függően, valamint a kétsfázisú végrehajtás és a frissítések blokkolás nélküli elosztásának támogatását. A Linux kernelbe javasolt a DRBD 9 elosztott replikálható blokkeszköz beépítése.
