A Peppermint OS Linux distribution, built on the Debian GNU/Linux package base and offering a user environment based on the Xfce desktop and the Thunar file manager, announced the switch to using XLibre, a fork of the X.Org Server, by default. XLibre will be used in the next update of the PeppermintOS ISO images, with experimental builds made available for testing before the release.
In the foreseeable future, Peppermint OS plans to remain on the X11 stack, as full support for X11 will continue in the Xfce desktop environment. According to the developers of Peppermint OS, the XLibre project is an excellent fit for users who prefer to use X11 instead of Wayland, as it continues work on bug fixes, maintenance, cleaning, and modernization of the original X.Org Server codebase.
