Sam Hartman, a Debian project leader, while trying to understand the disagreements among the maintainers of the elogind package (an interface for running GNOME 3 without systemd) and libsystemd, caused by a conflict between these packages and the recent refusal of the release preparation team to include elogind in the testing branch, acknowledged the possibility of supporting multiple initialization systems in the distribution.
If the project participants vote for the diversification of initialization systems, all maintainers will be involved in collaborative efforts to solve this issue, or special responsible developers will be appointed to address this problem, and maintainers will no longer be able to ignore the alternative initialization system or delay the process.
