A Pale Moon 29.1 web browser release is available, forked from the Firefox codebase to provide higher efficiency, maintain a classic interface, minimize memory consumption, and offer additional customization options. Pale Moon builds are available for Windows and Linux (x86 and x86_64). The project code is distributed under the MPLv2 license (Mozilla Public License).
A projekt a klasszikus felület megszervezését követi, elkerülve a Firefox 29 Australis felületének integrálását, és széleskörű testreszabási lehetőségeket kínál. Az eltávolított összetevők közé tartozik a DRM, a Social API, a WebRTC, a PDF néző, a Crash Reporter, a statisztikai gyűjtő kód, a szülői felügyeleti eszközök és a fogyatékkal élők számára készült megoldások. A Firefoxhoz képest a böngésző megtartotta a XUL technológia támogatását, lehetővé téve mind a teljes, mind a könnyű témák alkalmazását. A Pale Moon az UXP (Unified XUL Platform) platformra épül, amely keretében a Firefox összetevőit leválasztották a Mozilla Central tárolóból, eltávolítva a Rust nyelvű kód függőségeit és a Quantum projekt eredményeit.
Az új verzióban:
- Implemented the String.prototype.replaceAll() method, which returns a new string (the original string remains unchanged), where all matches based on the specified pattern have been replaced.
- A proposal has been implemented to process any JSON text as a syntactic subset of ECMAScript, allowing the use of line separator characters (U+2028) and paragraph separator characters (U+2029) in string literals.
- Correct formatting of strings returned by the JSON.stringify() method has been ensured.
- Support for separators to visually represent large numbers in JavaScript (for example, 1_000_000) has been added.
- User Agent value overrides specific to individual sites have been updated.
- The AV codec is disabled by default due to streaming issues.
- A sebezhetőségek javításai átkerültek.
