A Linux kernel development infrastructure team has announced the launch of a new mailing service at lists.linux.dev. In addition to the traditional mailing lists for Linux kernel developers, the server also allows the creation of lists for other projects with domains different from kernel.org.
All mailing lists served on vger.kernel.org will be transferred to the new server, retaining all addresses, subscribers, and identifiers. Due to the discontinuation of support for the majordomo mailing server, a new szerveren proprietary engine will be employed. Overall, everything will remain as it is, with only slight changes made to the message headers and the subscription and unsubscription procedures refined. Specifically, instead of a general address for all lists, each list will have its own dedicated address for subscription/unsubscription.
The new service will address issues with message loss that have been observed recently on vger.kernel.org (for example, some messages were lost and did not appear in the web archives lore.kernel.org or lkml.org). The relevance of the web archive is planned to be improved by prioritizing the sending of new messages to lore.kernel.org. Additionally, szerveren compatibility with the DMARC mechanism will also be ensured to improve the quality of message delivery to recipients.
