A DNS over HTTPS alapértelmezés szerint ki van kapcsolva a Firefox portján OpenBSD alatt

A Firefox port maintainer for OpenBSD did not support the decision on default inclusion of DNS over HTTPS in newer versions of Firefox. After a brief vita it was decided to keep the original behavior unchanged. To achieve this, the setting network.trr.mode is set to '5', which results in the unconditional disablement of DoH.

The following arguments are presented in favor of this decision:

  • Applications should adhere to system-wide DNS settings rather than overriding them;
  • Encrypting DNS may not be a bad idea, but routing all DNS traffic by default to Cloudflare is definitely a bad idea.

DoH settings can still be overridden in about:config if desired. For instance, you can set up your own DoH server, enter its address in the settings (the 'network.trr.uri' option), and switch 'network.trr.mode' to '3', after which all DNS requests will be served by your server via DoH. To deploy your own DoH server, you can use, for example, doh-proxy from Facebook, DNSCrypt Proxy vagy rust-doh.
