A StatCounter rating, which monitors global web browser usage statistics, shows that the share of Linux desktop distributions has exceeded 4% for the first time. The statistics are based on a counter placed on 1.5 million websites. Notably, 8 months ago, the share of Linux desktop distributions surpassed the 3% mark and was relatively stable until November, after which Linux's position began to strengthen gradually — in November, the share of Linux was 3.22%, in December — 3.83%, in January — 3.77%.

It is noted that the popularity of the ChromeOS operating system has declined, with its share dropping from 4% to 2.26% over 6 months. Thus, if we consider Chrome OS, the overall share of desktop Linux systems has decreased from 7.23% to 6.29% over 8 months. When all operating systems, including mobile ones, are taken into account, the leader is the Android platform, which uses the Linux kernel, with a share of 43.74%, followed by Windows — 27.39%, iOS — 17.82%, macOS — 5.87%, and Linux — 1.54%.
