A Microsoft blokkolta a VeraCrypt és a WireGuard kiadásainak tanúsításához szükséges fiókokat

A VeraCrypt disk encryption system author warned users about Microsoft blocking their account used for signing VeraCrypt builds for Windows with a digital signature. A situation has arisen where it is impossible to publish a new version of VeraCrypt for Windows. Meanwhile, the key used to sign the last release of VeraCrypt 1.26.24 will expire in June, after which the VeraCrypt driver will start being blocked by safe boot mode.

The blockage was made without prior warning and without an opportunity to appeal. The only reason mentioned was the organization’s non-compliance with the verification requirements, without any clarification about what exactly did not satisfy Microsoft. The author of VeraCrypt tried to contact Microsoft in several ways, but all attempts resulted only in automated bot responses. The author joined the discussion regarding the blocking of VeraCrypt VPN WireGuard, who mentioned that their account was also blocked and they can no longer create releases for Windows. As in the case of VeraCrypt, no warnings were sent to the developer — while preparing a WireGuard update for publication, the author attempted to access the signing interface and encountered a blocked account. The appeal process takes up to 60 days and its outcome is unpredictable. In case a critical vulnerability is detected in WireGuard, the author now has no way to quickly release a fix for Windows. Meanwhile, Microsoft itself uses WireGuard in the Azure Kubernetes Service product.
