A lxqt-sway project update has been published, focusing on porting the components of the LXQt user interface to operate within the Sway environment and a compositor using the Wayland protocol. Currently, the project resembles a hybrid of two environments. LXQt settings are transformed into a Sway configuration file.
To perform operations such as modification virtual desktop, splitting, and closing windows, additional menus have been implemented, simplifying window management and making it more intuitive for users accustomed to traditional window placement schemes rather than the mosaic layout utilized in Sway that relies on keyboard management.
An effort has been made to port the lxqt-panel, which has been adapted for Sway using the layer-shell-qt plugin from the KDE project, but it is not yet completed. Instead of lxqt-panel, the current lxqt-sway offers a simple panel called yatbfw, developed while exploring the Wayland protocol.
The implementation of Wayland in the core of LXQt is currently stalled, despite long-standing plans. However, there is a separate project, LWQt, which is developing a version of the LXQt shell based on Wayland, utilizing the Mutter compositor and the QtWayland module.
