New FreedomBox Trixie builds have been released, translated to the Debian 13 package base. The project is developing a system for easy deployment of personal servers that protect user personal data and allow quick setup of typical services on personal hardware for private use. All project developments are available through Debian repositories. The installation image is created for the x86_64 architecture (i386 builds have been discontinued). If desired, you can create your own image using the special Freedom-Maker installer and the freedombox-setup configurator.
Once booted from the created bootable media, the user can install pre-configured components ready for use via a web interface, such as VPN for accessing your local network, the home automation platform Home Assistant, the Postfix mail server with the Roundcube webmail, the Bepasty file sharing system, the TURN server Coturn, BitTorrent web clients Deluge and Transmission, the Jabber server Ejabberd, the Gitweb interface, gateways for working through I2P and Tor, the Janus video chat, the Mumble voice chat, the Synapse Matrix server, the Nextcloud cloud storage and collaboration system, the MiniDLNA streaming server, the Borg backup storage, the Privoxy filtering proxy, the Samba-based file server, the Radicale calendar planner, the Zoph photo manager, various Wiki engines, and a website based on WordPress. The project can also be used as a home router, firewall, and proxy for filtering ads and trackers.
FreedomBox was founded by Eben Moglen, a professor of law at Columbia University who provides legal support for the Free Software Foundation.
