A Firefox browser porting initiative for the Haiku operating system has reached a stage where this port can be accepted into the official project repository.
Through the joint efforts of the project participants, various changes were made to the base system and the compatibility layer with Wayland prepared by participant x512.
To avoid issues related to trademarks of the Mozilla company, it was decided to use the name IceWeasel for distributing browser builds, similar to the distribution of the Firefox browser for Debian in the past.
The reason for publishing the finished port for the general public was to ensure the ability to play media and output sound, as well as support for JIT.
It is worth noting that the port is still experimental and has known issues, such as graphical artifacts caused by the imperfections of the Wayland layer, and it does not support certain features like WebRTC.
