A Haiku OS development group has prepared and published the first public port of the Mozilla Firefox browser. Collaborative efforts during the port preparation included changes to both the base system and other utilized ports, such as the Wayland layer for Haiku, developed by x512.
Due to the lack of response from Mozilla, which prohibits the use of its trademarks when building from source code that differs from the original, the decision was made to release the browser under the alternative name IceWeasel, previously chosen by the GNU project for its Firefox fork.
The reason for publishing the ready port for the general public was to ensure media playback, sound output capability, and JIT support. It is worth noting that the port is still experimental and has known issues, such as graphical artifacts caused by the imperfections of the Wayland layer, and does not support certain features like WebRTC.
