A GNOME 16 moduljait támogató személy csökkenti a projekt melletti részvételét.

Christian Hergert, a developer of the integrated development environment GNOME Builder, the terminal emulator Ptyxis, and the text editor GNOME Text Editor, announced that due to his move from the USA to France and changes in his life priorities, he will no longer be able to devote adequate attention to GNOME development. Christian was almost the only active maintainer of 16 GNOME modules and spent more than forty hours a week supporting and developing the GNOME stack. It is noted that after the move, his ability to participate in development will be significantly limited, and he will mostly focus on his family, new activities, and settling into his new home.

The reason for the move is cited as the new immigration policy of the USA (Chris's wife is originally from Tibet). Chris was employed at Red Hat, but the company rejected his request to keep his position after moving to France, despite providing evidence of risks to his family.

The list of modules Chris was involved in maintaining and developing includes:

  • GtkSourceView — a library for embedding a multi-line text editing widget into applications, used in many GTK-based editors.
  • Text Editor — the main text editor for GNOME.
  • Ptyxis — a terminal emulator, used by default in Fedora, Debian, Ubuntu, RHEL/CentOS/Alma/Rocky.
  • libspelling — a library for spell checking in GTK applications based on the enchant2 package.
  • Sysprof — a profiling system integrated with Linux perf, Mesa, GTK, Pango, GLib, WebKit, Mutter.
  • Builder — an integrated development environment.
  • template-glib — a templating engine for GObject.
  • jsonrpc-glib — a library for interaction via JSON-RPC.
  • libpeas — an engine for creating plugins in C, C++, Rust, Lua, Python, and JavaScript.
  • libdex — a library for deferring task execution and integration with io_uring.
  • GOM — mapping of GObject objects in SQLite.
  • Manuals — a documentation viewer.
  • Foundry — an implementation of GNOME Builder functionality for use from the command line and in the form of a library.
  • d-spy — a tool for analyzing D-Bus connections.
  • libpanel — widgets for creating complex IDE-like applications based on GTK and libadwaita.
  • libmks — GTK components for displaying screens and transmitting mouse/keyboard events when interacting with virtual machines based on QEMU.
