The Linux kernel 4.19 is used in Debian 10, Google as the basis for the generic Android kernel and is included in the Android 10 platform, while the 5.4 kernel is used in Ubuntu 20.04 LTS.
Thus, like kernels 3.16, 4.9, 4.4, and 4.14, branches 5.4 and 4.19 will be supported for 6 years. The originally planned support duration for these kernels was 2 years (until December 2020 and 2021). The support for Linux kernel 3.16, released in August 2014, ends in June 2020. The 4.14 kernel will be supported until January 2024, 4.9 until January 2023, and 4.4 until February 2022. For regular non-LTS kernel releases, updates are provided only until the next stable branch is released (for example, updates for branch 5.6 were issued until 5.7 was released).
Separately, based on kernels 4.4 and 4.19, the Linux Foundation ág (Super Long Term Support), which is maintained separately and will be supported for 10-20 years. The support for SLTS branches is conducted under the Civil Infrastructure Platform (CIP) project, which includes companies like Toshiba, Siemens, Renesas, Hitachi, and MOXA, as well as maintainers of the LTS branches of the main kernel, Debian developers, and KernelCI project creators. SLTS kernels are aimed at use in technical systems of civil infrastructure and critical industrial systems.
