A Google error tracking system inadvertently revealed access to a report about an issue in a test build of the Aluminium operating system, which is running on the HP Elite Dragonfly 13.5 Chromebook. The report included two screencasts that provide insights into the graphical interface of the Aluminium OS being developed by Google for laptops, mini-PCs, and tablets in line with the plan to merge the Android and Chrome OS platforms.
Aluminium utilizes developments from the Android platform, and its interface resembles the desktop mode being developed in the Android 16 branch for larger screens, allowing simultaneous work with multiple application windows, similar to a traditional desktop environment. The interface shown in the screencasts features a bottom application panel in the style of Chrome OS, a top panel with indicators, and side-by-side windows with the Chrome browser. The top panel displays time, battery charge indicators, keyboard layout, Wi-Fi status, unread notifications, and the AI service Gemini.
