A Fedora Workstation 42 release, scheduled for spring next year, is proposed to switch by default to the Anaconda installer variant, which utilizes a web interface instead of a GTK-based interface. The issue of employing a fundamentally different interface for disk partitioning in the new installer is being discussed separately. The proposals have not yet been approved by the FESCo (Fedora Engineering Steering Committee), which is responsible for the technical aspect of the Fedora distribution's development (initially, the transition to the new installer was proposed for Fedora 39, but since then the migration has been postponed several times).
The new web interface is built using the React JavaScript framework, PatternFly design elements, and components from the Cockpit project, which is already used in Red Hat products for configuration and kezeléséhez.. The use of Cockpit also helped to achieve consistency and unify various system management components. The web interface also allows interaction through a web browser, significantly enhancing the convenience of remote management of the installation compared to using the VNC protocol. Instead of the main screen with a list of actions, the new interface is organized in the form of a wizard, implying a sequential execution of specific steps without returning to the main screen.
A projekt keretein belül javasolják a lemezparticionálás megszervezésének radikális átalakítását. Három alapvető mód valósult meg: teljes újratelepítés a kiválasztott lemezek teljes újrarendezésével, telepítés a szabad lemezterületre és meglévő lemezpartíciók felhasználása. Haladó partíciókezeléshez javasolt a Cockpit projekt által fejlesztett Cockpit Storage eszköz integrálása, amely ugyanazon webtechnológiákon alapul. A régi installáló esetében a lemezkezelés teljes mértékben automatizált módban, kézi partitionálásban és a Blivet-gui beépített partíciószerkesztőjével korlátozódik.
A Fedora 42-ben javasolt további változtatások közé tartozik a FEX emulátor hozzáadása, amely lehetővé teszi x86 és x86-64 architektúrára készült végrehajtható fájlok futtatását ARM64 (AArch64) környezetben. A Fedora Linux AArch64 architektúrára készült kiadásaiban javasolt a FEX alapú x86 programok futtatásához szükséges komponensek integrálása, a KDE asztali környezet mellett.
