As part of the Trident project, development of the Lumina graphical environment and all previously available graphical tools in PC-BSD, such as sysadm and AppCafe, is also underway. The Trident project was formed after the transformation of TrueOS into a separate modular operating system, which can be used as a platform for other projects. TrueOS is positioned as a downstream fork of FreeBSD, modifying the core of FreeBSD with support for technologies like OpenRC and LibreSSL. During development, the project adheres to a six-month release preparation cycle with updates scheduled in advance.

• For web navigation, the browser Falkon (QupZilla) is offered, featuring a built-in ad blocker and advanced tracking protection settings.
• By default, the ZFS file system and the OpenRC initialization system are used.
• When updating the system, a separate snapshot is created in the file system, allowing for an instant revert to the previous system state in case problems arise after the update.
• LibreSSL from the OpenBSD project is used instead of OpenSSL.
• Installed packages are verified by digital signature.
