The Free TON Community (composed of developers and potential users of the TON platform) has launched the Free TON blockchain platform. This was reported by RBC, citing a statement from the community stating that Telegram founder Pavel Durov, who was prohibited by American authorities from issuing cryptocurrency, did not participate in the platform's launch.
According to available data, instead of Gram tokens, project participants will receive tokens called TON. A total of 5 billion TON will be issued, 85% of which will be distributed free of charge to network partners and users. Additionally, 10% of the total token supply will go to developers, while 5% will be distributed among validators, who will be responsible for confirming user transactions. The source notes that user tokens will be distributed through a referral program, meaning that TON can be obtained by attracting new users to the platform. In the 'Decentralization Declaration' signed by community members, it is stated that TON tokens give their holders the right to participate in discussions regarding the strategy and management of the platform.
The Free TON Community Declaration was signed by over 170 participants. In addition to Telegram's technical partner, TON Labs, which was involved in the creation of the blockchain platform, the community includes cryptocurrency exchanges Kuna and CEX.IO, as well as investment firms Dokia Capital and Bitscale Capital. The message also highlights that Free TON is not connected to Telegram, its investors, or the company's dispute with the American regulator.
“We name the network and the token differently to demonstrate that this network is free from the regulator's history. At the same time, TON possesses all the characteristics of cryptocurrency, enabling payments,” said Dmitry Goroshevsky, the technical director of TON Labs.
