Lars Knoll, a creator of the KHTML engine developed for KDE, which formed the basis for the Safari and Chrome browser engines, announced his departure from the position of Technical Director at Qt Company and as the chief maintainer of Qt after 25 years of working in the project's ecosystem. According to Lars, after his departure, the project will remain in reliable hands and continue to develop in accordance with the same principles. The motivation for his departure is the desire to try something different outside of the Qt framework, which he has been involved with since his student days. <\/p>\n
His new workplace will be a startup created together with one of the founders of Trolltech. Details about the new project are not yet provided, only that it is not related to the C++ language and development tools. Until the end of June, Lars will continue working on Qt at the same pace, but then will switch to the new project, giving Qt significantly less time, although he will not completely leave the community, remaining available in newsletters and ready to consult other developers. <\/p>\n
