A Netlink portol\u00e1s\u00e1nak indoka a standard mechanizmus hi\u00e1nya az alrendszerekkel val\u00f3 interakci\u00f3hoz, amely arra vezet, hogy a k\u00fcl\u00f6nb\u00f6z\u0151 alrendszerek \u00e9s illeszt\u0151programok saj\u00e1t protokolljaikat tal\u00e1lj\u00e1k ki.     <\/p>\n<p>A Netlink egy egys\u00e9ges kommunik\u00e1ci\u00f3s r\u00e9teget \u00e9s kiterjeszthet\u0151 \u00fczenetform\u00e1t k\u00edn\u00e1l, amely k\u00f6zvet\u00edt\u0151k\u00e9nt m\u0171k\u00f6dhet, automatikusan egyes\u00edtve k\u00fcl\u00f6nb\u00f6z\u0151 forr\u00e1sokb\u00f3l sz\u00e1rmaz\u00f3 sz\u00e9tsz\u00f3rt adatokat egyetlen k\u00e9r\u00e9sben. P\u00e9ld\u00e1ul a Netlink r\u00e9v\u00e9n \u00e1tkonvert\u00e1lhat\u00f3k olyan FreeBSD alrendszerek, mint a devd, jail \u00e9s pfilctl, amelyek jelenleg saj\u00e1t ioctl h\u00edv\u00e1saikat haszn\u00e1lj\u00e1k, ez jelent\u0151sen megk\u00f6nny\u00edti az ezen alrendszerek adataival val\u00f3 munkav\u00e9gz\u00e9sre szolg\u00e1l\u00f3 alkalmaz\u00e1sok l\u00e9trehoz\u00e1s\u00e1t.
