Christian Schaller, a leader of the Fedora Desktop Team and the desktop systems development group at Red Hat, discussed some of the features they plan to add in the next release of Fedora Workstation:

They plan to include the Instructlab toolkit, which allows for the quick installation of the large language model Granite, released by IBM under the Apache 2.0 license, encompassing 7 billion parameters and able to consider up to 4,000 tokens when generating text. In addition to working with the ready-made model,
Instructlab provides tools for adding additional knowledge to the model and implementing new skills that may be required to solve specific tasks.

Moreover, Fedora plans to enhance capabilities applicable when using different models. For instance, work is underway to add support for the ROCm stack for hardware acceleration on AMD GPUs in the PyTorch library package. Among more distant plans is the provision of out-of-the-box hardware acceleration support with PyTorch on systems equipped with GPUs from AMD, NVIDIA, and Intel.

To simplify the use of NVIDIA GPUs for graphics and machine learning, they plan to upgrade the quick installation option for proprietary NVIDIA drivers in GNOME Software. In a recent Fedora release, the option to install such drivers was removed because the default configuration, which employs booting in Secure Boot mode, complicated installation due to the need for manual addition of a digital signature for the installed drivers using tools from the mokutils package. In Fedora 41, they plan to restore the installation option
of proprietary NVIDIA drivers in GNOME Software and implement a graphical interface for creating and saving the digital signature for the NVIDIA kernel module in MOK (Machine Owner Key).
