A claudleak utility has been prepared to identify such leaks in public repositories on GitHub. A test scan of GitHub has shown that approximately 2.4% of repositories containing subdirectories with AI assistant settings have valid keys or credentials, confirmed by a separate check. The author of the utility encountered a problem when he noticed a file '.claude\/settings.local.json' in his repository, which contained access keys and passwords transferred through environment variables. <\/p>\n

Developers using AI assistants are advised to add the directories .claude\/, .cursor\/, .continue\/, .copilot\/, and .aider\/ to the .gitignore file and also configure their exclusion via a global filter using the command 'git config --global core.excludesfile file_with_list'.
