Jon Seager, a Canonical Vice President of Engineering and the technical leader of the Ubuntu project, announced the resumption of work on the Ubuntu Core Desktop project, which develops an alternative desktop version of Ubuntu using solutions from the Ubuntu Core platform and employing packages in Snap format instead of deb packages.<\/p>\n

To control applications' access to system and external resources, a permission request mechanism is being developed, requiring user confirmation for access, for instance, when Snap packages request access to files in the home directory, webcam, or microphone. The dynamic output of requests is based on the analysis of system call access, and access control is organized using AppArmor. <\/p>\n
