Christian Schaller, a leader of the desktop systems development group at Red Hat and Fedora Desktop Team, in the overview of plans<\/a><\/noindex>, regarding desktop components in Fedora 31, mentioned the intention of Red Hat to cease active development of the X.Org server functionality and to limit itself to maintaining the existing code base and fixing bugs.<\/p>\n

Currently, Red Hat plays a key role in the development of the X.Org server and is responsible for its maintenance, so if it withdraws from development, it is unlikely that significant releases of the X.Org server will continue. Nevertheless, despite the cessation of development, Red Hat will continue to maintain X.Org at least until the end of the lifecycle of the RHEL 8 distribution, which will last until 2029.<\/p>\n
