Sam Hartman, a Debian project leader, attempted<\/a><\/noindex> to understand the disagreements related to the delivery of the elogind package within the distribution. In July, the team responsible for preparing the releases blocked<\/a><\/noindex> the inclusion of elogind in the testing branch, as this package conflicts with libsystemd. <\/p>\n

On the other hand, in its current form, attempts to update the configuration from systemd to a variant with sysvinit and elogind through APT lead to a damaged system<\/a><\/noindex> with a non-working APT. However, even after addressing this shortcoming, the transition from systemd to elogind remains impossible without removing already installed user environments.<\/p>\n

The developers of elogind were aj\u00e1nlott<\/a><\/noindex> to adapt elogind to work on top of the standard libpam-systemd, without using their own layer, libpam-elogind. The transition of elogind to libpam-systemd is hindered by the lack of support for the concept of slices, but the elogind developers do not wish to achieve full API compliance or precisely replicate all systemd capabilities, as elogind provides only minimal functionality for user login organization and does not aim to replicate all systemd subsystems.<\/p>\n
