Japan Display (JDI), one of Apple's suppliers, announced on Thursday that it dismissed a client relations manager for embezzling around $5.25 million over four years since the company went public in 2014.

In JDI's statement, it mentioned that it has filed a criminal complaint against the former employee and is cooperating with the police. The embezzlement was first reported by Asahi newspaper on Thursday.

The JDI employee fraudulently acquired approximately 578 million yen ($5.25 million) from July 2014 to October 2018 by organizing payments to a fictitious company.

Currently, the company, facing significant financial troubles, is seeking a financial assistance agreement with Apple and other investors, aiming to raise at least 50 billion yen.
