David Airlie, maintainer of the DRM (Direct Rendering Manager) subsystem in the Linux kernel, reported on the implementation in radv, included in the Mesa Vulkan driver for AMD GPUs, of the ability to use Vulkan extensions for hardware-accelerated video encoding. For the h.265 video format, the implementation has already successfully passed all CTS (Compatibility Test Suite) tests, while for the h.264 format, there remains one unpassed test. Additionally, initial support for using Vulkan for encoding videos in h.265 and h.264 formats has been added to FFmpeg.
