Valve ha pubblicato il rilascio del progetto Proton 10.0-3, basato sul codice di Wine e mirato a garantire l'esecuzione di applicazioni di gioco create per Windows su Linux e disponibili nel catalogo Steam. Il rilascio 10.0-3 è contrassegnato come il primo rilascio stabile della serie 10.0 (le versioni precedenti della serie erano considerate versioni beta). I risultati del progetto sono distribuiti sotto licenza BSD.
Proton consente di avviare direttamente nel client Steam su Linux applicazioni di gioco disponibili esclusivamente per Windows. Il pacchetto include l'implementazione di DirectX 8/9/10/11 (basata su DXVK) e DirectX 12 (basata su vkd3d-proton), che funzionano tramite la traslitterazione delle chiamate DirectX nell'API Vulkan, fornisce un miglior supporto per i controller di gioco e la possibilità di utilizzare la modalità a schermo intero indipendentemente dalle risoluzioni supportate nei giochi. Per migliorare le prestazioni dei giochi multithread, sono supportati meccanismi come 'esync' (Eventfd Synchronization) e 'futex/fsync'.
Tra le novità della nuova versione di Proton:
- Sincronizzazione completata con il rilascio di Wine 10.0.
- Aggiornato il layer DXVK 2.6.2, che trasmette le chiamate all'API Vulkan.
- Aggiornata la versione di VKD3D-Proton 2.14.1, un fork di vkd3d creato da Valve per migliorare il supporto di Direct3D 12 in Proton.
- Il pacchetto Dxvk-nvapi con l'implementazione della libreria NVAPI sopra DXVK è stato aggiornato alla versione 0.9.0.
- Il motore Wine Mono con l'implementazione della piattaforma .NET è stato aggiornato alla versione 10.0.0.
- Aggiornato il pacchetto vkd3d 1.17, che implementa Direct3D 12 funzionante tramite traduzione delle chiamate all'API grafica Vulkan.
- Interfaccia per i gamepad Xalia aggiornata alla versione 0.4.6.
- Aggiunto supporto per Steamworks SDK 1.62.
