\u00c8 disponibile per il testing il candidato al rilascio della distribuzione Rocky Linux 8.3, mirato a creare una nuova build libera di RHEL, in grado di occupare il posto del classico CentOS, dopo che Red Hat ha deciso di interrompere il supporto per il ramo CentOS 8 alla fine del 2021, e non nel 2029 come inizialmente previsto. Le build di Rocky Linux sono preparate per le architetture x86_64 e aarch64. <\/p>\n

La distribuzione \u00e8 completamente compatibile a livello binario con Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.3. Come nel classico CentOS, le modifiche apportate ai pacchetti mirano a rimuovere il marchio Red Hat. Il progetto \u00e8 guidato da Gregory Kurtzer, fondatore di CentOS. Parallelamente, \u00e8 stata creata l'azienda commerciale Ctrl IQ per lo sviluppo di prodotti avanzati basati su Rocky Linux e per supportare la comunit\u00e0 di sviluppatori di questa distribuzione, la quale ha ricevuto 4 milioni di dollari di investimenti. La distribuzione Rocky Linux promette di svilupparsi indipendentemente dall'azienda Ctrl IQ sotto la guida della comunit\u00e0. Come alternativa al vecchio CentOS, oltre a Rocky Linux, \u00e8 in sviluppo il progetto AlmaLinux con il supporto di CloudLinux, il cui primo rilascio stabile \u00e8 gi\u00e0 avvenuto a fine marzo. Inoltre, Oracle Linux \u00e8 promosso come sostituzione di CentOS. Red Hat ha anche offerto l'opportunit\u00e0 di utilizzare RHEL gratuitamente nelle organizzazioni che sviluppano software open source e negli ambienti di singoli sviluppatori che contano fino a 16 sistemi virtuali o fisici.
