Gli sviluppatori di Red Hat hanno avviato la formazione delle build di CentOS Stream 9, una versione di CentOS in continua aggiornamento, sulla quale \u00e8 iniziata la sviluppo della branca Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9. CentOS Stream consente di avere accesso anticipato alle funzionalit\u00e0 della futura branca RHEL, ma include pacchetti che non sono ancora completamente stabilizzati. CentOS Stream \u00e8 stato creato per dare la possibilit\u00e0 agli attori esterni della comunit\u00e0 di partecipare allo sviluppo di un nuovo ramo di RHEL. CentOS Stream pu\u00f2 essere considerato come un progetto upstream per RHEL, fungendo da base per il suo sviluppo. Gli attori esterni possono monitorare la preparazione dei pacchetti per RHEL, proporre le proprie modifiche e influenzare le decisioni adottate. In precedenza, come base per un nuovo ramo di RHEL, veniva utilizzato uno snapshot di una delle versioni di Fedora, che veniva elaborato e stabilizzato a porte chiuse, senza possibilit\u00e0 di controllare il progresso dello sviluppo e le decisioni prese.
