Con il supporto della FreeBSD Foundation, un nuovo installer per FreeBSD \u00e8 in fase di sviluppo. A differenza dell'attuale installer bsdinstall, questo nuovo strumento sar\u00e0 in grado di funzionare in modalit\u00e0 grafica, risultando quindi pi\u00f9 accessibile agli utenti comuni. Attualmente, il nuovo installer \u00e8 in fase di prototipo sperimentale, ma gi\u00e0 in grado di eseguire operazioni di installazione di base. Per chi desidera partecipare ai test, \u00e8 disponibile un'immagine ISO di installazione che funziona in modalit\u00e0 Live. <\/p>\n

L'installer \u00e8 scritto in linguaggio Lua e implementato come server HTTP, offrendo un'interfaccia web. L'immagine di installazione costituisce un sistema Live, in cui viene avviato un ambiente di lavoro con un browser web, visualizzando l'interfaccia web dell'installer in modalit\u00e0 finestra singola. Il processo server dell'installer e il browser vengono eseguiti sul supporto di installazione e funzionano come backend e frontend. Inoltre, \u00e8 possibile gestire l'installazione da un host esterno. <\/p>\n

Il progetto si sviluppa utilizzando un'architettura modulare. In base ai parametri scelti dall'utente, viene generato un file di configurazione, che funge da script per l'installazione reale. A differenza degli script di installazione supportati da bsdinstall, i file di configurazione del nuovo installer hanno una struttura pi\u00f9 rigidamente definita e possono essere utilizzati per creare interfacce di installazione alternative.
