L'azienda Microsoft ha annunciato l'apertura del codice sorgente del layer D3D9On12 con l'implementazione del dispositivo DDI (Device Driver Interface), che trasforma i comandi Direct3D 9 (D3D9) in comandi Direct3D 12 (D3D12). Il layer consente di eseguire applicazioni pi\u00f9 vecchie in ambienti che supportano solo D3D12, ad esempio, pu\u00f2 risultare utile per implementare D3D9 sulla base dei progetti vkd3d e VKD3D-Proton, che offrono un'implementazione di Direct3D 12 per Linux, eseguendo la traduzione delle chiamate D3D12 nell'API grafica Vulkan. Il codice D3D9On12 \u00e8 scritto in C++ ed \u00e8 pubblicato con una licenza MIT. <\/p>\n

Il progetto si basa sul codice di un sistema analogo che fa parte di Windows 10. Contemporaneamente \u00e8 stato pubblicato il pacchetto DXBC Signer, che consente di firmare file DXBC arbitrari generati da strumenti di terze parti. D3D9On12 utilizza questo pacchetto per firmare i DXBC generati durante la trasformazione degli shader nel nuovo modello.
