Nelle build notturne, su cui si baser\u00e0 il rilascio di Firefox 94, \u00e8 stata aggiunta una modifica che include, per impostazione predefinita, un nuovo backend di rendering per ambienti grafici che utilizzano il protocollo X11. Il nuovo backend \u00e8 notevole per l'uso del rendering grafico EGL invece di GLX. Il backend supporta il funzionamento con i driver OpenGL open source Mesa 21.x e con i driver proprietari NVIDIA 470.x. I driver OpenGL proprietari di AMD non sono ancora supportati. <\/p>\n

L'uso di EGL risolve i problemi con i driver gfx e consente di ampliare la gamma di dispositivi per i quali \u00e8 disponibile l'accelerazione video e WebGL. In precedenza, per attivare il nuovo backend per X11 era necessario avviare con la variabile ambientale MOZ_X11_EGL, dopo la quale Webrender e i componenti di compositing OpenGL passavano a utilizzare EGL. Il nuovo backend \u00e8 stato preparato separando il backend DMABUF, originariamente creato per Wayland e che consente di inviare direttamente i fotogrammi in memoria GPU, che possono essere riflessi nel framebuffer EGL e renderizzati come texture durante la composizione degli elementi della pagina web.
