La firma incrociata garantiva fiducia ai certificati Let's Encrypt su un'ampia gamma di dispositivi, sistemi operativi e browser durante il periodo di integrazione del proprio certificato radice di Let's Encrypt nei depositi di certificati radice.     <\/p>\n<p>Inizialmente si prevedeva che, dopo la dismissione del DST Root CA X3, il progetto Let's Encrypt avrebbe iniziato a generare firme utilizzando solo il proprio certificato radice, ma tale passo avrebbe comportato una perdita di compatibilit\u00e0 con un gran numero di sistemi obsoleti che non avevano aggiunto il certificato radice di Let's Encrypt nei loro depositi. In particolare, circa il 30% dei dispositivi Android in uso non dispone di informazioni sul certificato radice di Let's Encrypt, la cui supporto \u00e8 iniziato solo a partire dalla piattaforma Android 7.1.1, rilasciata alla fine del 2016.      <\/p>\n<p>Let's Encrypt non intendeva stipulare un nuovo accordo di firma incrociata, poich\u00e9 questo comporta un'ulteriore responsabilit\u00e0 per le parti coinvolte, limita l'autonomia e vincola le mani riguardo al rispetto di tutte le procedure e regole di un'altra autorit\u00e0 di certificazione. Tuttavia, a causa della potenziale insorgenza di problemi su un gran numero di dispositivi Android, il piano \u00e8 stato rivisto. \u00c8 stato stipulato un nuovo accordo con l'autorit\u00e0 di certificazione IdenTrust, nell'ambito del quale \u00e8 stato creato un certificato intermedio firmato incrociato alternativo per Let's Encrypt. La firma incrociata sar\u00e0 valida per tre anni e permetter\u00e0 di mantenere il supporto per i dispositivi Android a partire dalla versione 2.3.6.      <\/p>\n<p>Tuttavia, il nuovo certificato intermedio non copre molti altri sistemi obsoleti. Ad esempio, dopo la dismissione del certificato DST Root CA X3 il 30 settembre, i certificati Let's Encrypt smetteranno di essere riconosciuti nei firmware e sistemi operativi non pi\u00f9 supportati, nei quali per garantire la fiducia ai certificati Let's Encrypt sar\u00e0 necessaria l'aggiunta manuale del certificato ISRG Root X1 nel deposito dei certificati radice. I problemi si manifesteranno in:  <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"l\"> OpenSSL fino alla versione 1.0.2 inclusa (il supporto per la versione 1.0.2 \u00e8 stato interrotto a dicembre 2019);\n<li class=\"l\"> NSS &lt; 3.26;\n<li class=\"l\"> Java 8 &lt; 8u141, Java 7 &lt; 7u151;\n<li class=\"l\"> Windows &lt; XP SP3;\n<li class=\"l\"> macOS &lt; 10.12.1;\n<li class=\"l\"> iOS &lt; 10 (iPhone &lt; 5);\n<li class=\"l\"> Android &lt; 2.3.6;\n<li class=\"l\"> Mozilla Firefox &lt; 50;\n<li class=\"l\"> Ubuntu &lt; 16.04;\n<li class=\"l\"> Debian &lt; 8.      <\/ul>\n<p>Nel caso di OpenSSL 1.0.2, il problema \u00e8 causato da un errore che non consente di gestire correttamente i certificati firmati incrociati, nel caso in cui uno dei certificati radice utilizzati per la firma scada, anche se altre catene di fiducia valide vengono mantenute. Il problema \u00e8 emerso per la prima volta lo scorso anno dopo la scadenza del certificato AddTrust, utilizzato per la firma incrociata nei certificati dell'autorit\u00e0 di certificazione Sectigo (Comodo). La questione principale \u00e8 che OpenSSL interpretava il certificato come una catena lineare, mentre secondo il RFC 4158 il certificato pu\u00f2 rappresentare un grafo ciclico distribuito orientato con pi\u00f9 ancore di fiducia da considerare.     <\/p>\n<p>Agli utenti di vecchie distribuzioni basate su OpenSSL 1.0.2 vengono offerti tre modi alternativi per risolvere il problema:  <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"l\"> Rimuovere manualmente il certificato radice IdenTrust DST Root CA X3 e installare un certificato radice ISRG Root X1 separato (non firmato incrociato).\n<li class=\"l\"> Quando si eseguono i comandi openssl verify e s_client, \u00e8 possibile specificare l'opzione &#171;&#8212;trusted_first&#187;.\n<li class=\"l\"> Utilizzare un <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/prohoster.info\/it\/server\/dts-newyork\/\"   title=\"server\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"2676\">server<\/a> certificato firmato da un certificato radice ISRG Root X1 separato, privo di firma incrociata. Questo metodo porter\u00e0 a una perdita di compatibilit\u00e0 con i vecchi client Android.  <\/ul>\n<p>Inoltre, si pu\u00f2 notare che il progetto Let's Encrypt ha superato il traguardo di due miliardi di certificati emessi. Il traguardo di un miliardo \u00e8 stato raggiunto a febbraio dello scorso anno. Vengono emessi quotidianamente tra 2,2 e 2,4 milioni di nuovi certificati. Il numero di certificati attivi \u00e8 di 192 milioni (il certificato ha una validit\u00e0 di tre mesi) e copre circa 260 milioni. <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/prohoster.info\/it\/domain\/\"   title=\"dei domini\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"3167\">dei domini<\/a> (un anno fa erano coperti 195 milioni di domini, due anni fa \u2014 150 milioni, tre anni fa \u2014 60 milioni). Secondo le statistiche del servizio Firefox Telemetry, la quota globale di richieste di pagine tramite HTTPS \u00e8 dell'82% (un anno fa \u2014 81%, due anni fa \u2014 77%, tre anni fa \u2014 69%,
