L'autore di mitmproxy, lo strumento per l'analisi del traffico HTTP\/HTTPS, ha notato l'emergere nel catalogo dei pacchetti Python PyPI (Python Package Index) di un fork del suo progetto. Le modifiche indicate rimuovevano le restrizioni all'accesso all'API HTTP utilizzata per gestire mitmproxy tramite un'interfaccia Web, consentendo a qualsiasi malintenzionato presente nella stessa rete locale di eseguire il proprio codice sul sistema dell'utente inviando una richiesta HTTP. <\/p>\n

L'amministrazione del catalogo ha concordato sul fatto che le modifiche apportate possono essere interpretate come dannose, e il pacchetto stesso come un tentativo di promuovere un altro prodotto sotto le spoglie del progetto principale (nella descrizione del pacchetto si stipulava che si trattasse di una nuova versione di mitmproxy, e non di un fork). Dopo aver rimosso il pacchetto dal catalogo, il giorno successivo \u00e8 stato pubblicato un nuovo pacchetto mitmproxy-iframe in PyPI, la cui descrizione coincideva completamente con quella del pacchetto ufficiale. Attualmente, il pacchetto mitmproxy-iframe \u00e8 stato anch'esso rimosso dal catalogo di PyPI.
