L'organizzazione Apache Software Foundation ha annunciato piani per abbandonare l'uso di sistemi di mirror supportati da varie organizzazioni e volontari. Per gestire il caricamento dei file dei progetti Apache, \u00e8 prevista l'implementazione di un sistema di rete di distribuzione dei contenuti (CDN, Content Delivery Network) che permetter\u00e0 di eliminare problemi come la desincronizzazione dei mirror e i ritardi dovuti alla diffusione dei contenuti attraverso i mirror. <\/p>\n

Si segnala che, nelle attuali realt\u00e0, l'uso di mirror non \u00e8 pi\u00f9 giustificato \u2014 il volume dei dati restituiti tramite i mirror di Apache \u00e8 aumentato da 10 a 180 GB, le tecnologie per la consegna dei contenuti hanno fatto passi in avanti e i costi di traffico sono diminuiti. Non viene specificato quale CDN sar\u00e0 utilizzata, si menziona solo che la scelta sar\u00e0 fatta a favore di una rete con supporto professionale e un livello di servizio che soddisfi le esigenze della Apache Software Foundation. <\/p>\n

\u00c8 notevole che sotto l'egida di Apache sia gi\u00e0 in fase di sviluppo una piattaforma per la creazione di reti CDN geograficamente distribuite, Apache Traffic Control, utilizzata nelle reti di distribuzione dei contenuti delle aziende Cisco e Comcast. Pochi giorni fa \u00e8 stato rilasciato Apache Traffic Control 6.0, che include il supporto per la generazione e l'aggiornamento dei certificati utilizzando il protocollo ACME, la possibilit\u00e0 di impostare blocchi (CDN Locks), il supporto per le code di aggiornamento e un backend per l'estrazione delle chiavi da PostgreSQL.
