Gli sviluppatori della distribuzione AlmaLinux, fondata da CloudLinux in risposta alla sospensione anticipata del supporto per CentOS 8, hanno presentato lo strumento ELevate, che semplifica la migrazione delle installazioni attive di CentOS 7.x verso distribuzioni basate su un'infrastruttura RHEL 8, mantenendo applicazioni, dati e impostazioni. Attualmente, il progetto supporta la migrazione verso AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux, CentOS Stream e Oracle Linux. <\/p>\n

Il processo di migrazione si basa sull'utilizzo dell'utility Leapp sviluppata da Red Hat, arricchita con patch che tengono conto delle specificit\u00e0 di CentOS e di distribuzioni di terze parti basate su RHEL. CentOS Stream offre l'accesso anticipato alle funzionalit\u00e0 della futura versione di RHEL, ma include pacchetti che non sono ancora completamente stabilizzati. Grazie a CentOS Stream, i partecipanti esterni possono monitorare la preparazione dei pacchetti per RHEL, proporre modifiche e influenzare le decisioni prese. La comunit\u00e0 ha risposto a questo cambiamento creando diverse alternative al classico CentOS 8, tra cui VzLinux (preparato da Virtuozzo), AlmaLinux (sviluppato da CloudLinux in collaborazione con la comunit\u00e0), Rocky Linux (sviluppato dalla comunit\u00e0 sotto la guida del fondatore di CentOS con il supporto dell'azienda appositamente creata Ctrl IQ) e Oracle Linux. Inoltre, Red Hat ha offerto la possibilit\u00e0 di utilizzare RHEL gratuitamente nelle organizzazioni che sviluppano software open source e negli ambienti di sviluppatori individuali che gestiscono fino a 16 sistemi virtuali o fisici.
