Attualmente, il progetto \u00e8 in fase prototipale e funziona tramite FPGA. Gli schemi, le descrizioni dei blocchi hardware in Verilog, il simulatore, i driver e la documentazione di progetto associata sono distribuiti sotto licenza BSD.     <\/p>\n<p>Nella sua forma attuale, viene fornito un ISA standard RISC-V, ampliato con alcune istruzioni aggiuntive necessarie per supportare le funzioni GPU e la gestione dei thread. Durante lo sviluppo, gli autori del progetto hanno cercato di ridurre al minimo le modifiche all'architettura del set di istruzioni RISC-V, utilizzando, dove possibile, istruzioni vettoriali gi\u00e0 esistenti. Un approccio simile viene utilizzato anche nel progetto RV64X, che sviluppa anch'esso una GPU open source basata sulle tecnologie RISC-V.  <center><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Vortex - GPGPU open source basato su architettura RISC-V, compatibile con OpenCL\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/b28015da9f9188f87f402a8b14ee070b.jpg\" style=\"display:block;margin: 0 auto;\" \/><\/center>        <\/p>\n<p>Le capacit\u00e0 di Vortex nella gestione della grafica sono attualmente limitate. \u00c8 stata annunciata l'implementazione del supporto per OpenGL ES basato su Vortex, ma nel GPU \u00e8 stata realizzata solo l'istruzione &#171;tex&#187; per accelerare l'elaborazione delle texture, che viene eseguita a livello di shader di frammento. Non \u00e8 presente un rasterizzatore integrato \u2014 tutta l'elaborazione delle operazioni geometriche viene eseguita dal CPU di sistema, mentre i primitivi di base per punti, linee e triangoli, cos\u00ec come l'elaborazione dei frammenti, della profondit\u00e0 e della trasparenza, sono implementati utilizzando il kernel OpenCL.   <center><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Vortex - GPGPU open source basato su architettura RISC-V, compatibile con OpenCL\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/a12215387481ff353fb2fd4454c286da.jpg\" style=\"display:block;margin: 0 auto;\" \/><\/center>    <\/p>\n<p>In futuro si prevede di implementare estensioni ISA specifiche per l'elaborazione grafica, aggiungere supporto per le API CUDA e Vulkan, oltre a estensioni per l'accelerazione dei sistemi di apprendimento automatico e analisi dati. Per lo sviluppo di applicazioni \u00e8 disponibile un toolkit, che include varianti di PoCL adattate per lavorare con Vortex (compilatore e runtime OpenCL), LLVM\/Clang, GCC e Binutils. \u00c8 supportata la simulazione del funzionamento del chip utilizzando Verilator (simulatore Verilog) e SimX (simulazione software).    <center><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Vortex - GPGPU open source basato su architettura RISC-V, compatibile con OpenCL\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/d0b801f648a6863f190ec62c4a36fb6a.jpg\" style=\"display:block;margin: 0 auto;\" \/><\/center>    <\/p>\n<p>Caratteristiche principali di Vortex:  <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"l\"> Supporto per l'architettura del set di istruzioni RISC-V RV32IMF.\n<li class=\"l\"> Scalabilit\u00e0 del chip fino a 64 core con cache L2 e L3 opzionali.\n<li class=\"l\"> Ogni core pu\u00f2 eseguire 1024 thread e funzionare a una frequenza di 250 MHz.\n<li class=\"l\"> La massima capacit\u00e0 computazionale \u00e8 stimata in 128 Gflop, con una larghezza di banda della memoria di 16 GB\/s. L'implementazione a 32 core, operante a 200 MHz, basata su FPGA Altera Stratix 10, ha mostrato prestazioni di 25,6 GFlop.\n<li class=\"l\"> Supporto per lo standard OpenCL 1.2.\n<li class=\"l\">
