Dopo tre anni dalla precedente versione, \u00e8 stato rilasciato il sistema di riconoscimento ottico dei caratteri Ocrad 0.28, sviluppato sotto l'egida del progetto GNU. Ocrad pu\u00f2 essere utilizzato sia come libreria per integrare le funzionalit\u00e0 OCR in altre applicazioni, sia come utilit\u00e0 autonoma, che in base all'immagine fornita restituisce testo in UTF-8 o in codifiche a 8 bit. <\/p>\n

Per il riconoscimento ottico in Ocrad viene utilizzato il metodo di estrazione delle caratteristiche (feature extraction). Include un analizzatore del layout della pagina, che consente di separare correttamente colonne e blocchi di testo nei documenti stampati. Il riconoscimento \u00e8 supportato solo per caratteri delle codifiche \u00abascii\u00bb, \u00abiso-8859-9\u00bb e \u00abiso-8859-15\u00bb (il supporto per il cirillico non \u00e8 disponibile). <\/p>\n

Si segnala che nel nuovo rilascio \u00e8 stata inclusa una vasta gamma di piccole correzioni e miglioramenti. La modifica pi\u00f9 significativa \u00e8 stata l'aggiunta del supporto per il formato delle immagini PNG, implementato tramite la libreria libpng, il che ha semplificato notevolmente l'utilizzo del programma, poich\u00e9 in precedenza era possibile fornire solo immagini nei formati PNM.
