L'azienda Mozilla ha iniziato ad adottare un nuovo metodo per identificare le installazioni del browser. Negli assemblaggi distribuiti dal sito ufficiale, forniti sotto forma di file exe per la piattaforma Windows, vengono inseriti identificatori dltoken, unici per ogni download. Pertanto, effettuare pi\u00f9 download consecutivi dell'archivio di installazione per la stessa piattaforma porta a scaricare file con checksum diversi, poich\u00e9 gli identificatori vengono aggiunti direttamente al file scaricato. <\/p>\n

L'effetto si manifesta solo durante il download di file exe dall'ambiente Windows. Tentando di scaricare dal browser o dalla riga di comando in Linux, i file exe vengono sempre forniti identici. Anche gli archivi in formati non eseguibili non subiscono modifiche. Si afferma che disabilitare il conteggio di dltoken \u00e8 possibile tramite lo spegnimento della telemetria nel browser, ma non \u00e8 chiaro come la gestione della telemetria in Firefox possa aiutare nella prima installazione e influenzare la sostituzione dei dati durante server<\/a>il download dei file dal sito (il problema si manifesta anche durante il download da Google Chrome). Come soluzione alternativa per ottenere file di installazione di Firefox senza identificatori, \u00e8 possibile avviare il download direttamente dal sito ftp.mozilla.org. <\/p>\n

Come motivo per l'inserimento dell'identificatore dltoken si cita il desiderio di collegare le prime installazioni, la telemetria esistente e gli identificatori di Google Analytics con i download effettivi del browser. In particolare, \u00e8 possibile valutare le ragioni delle deviazioni nel numero di download e installazioni, e capire quali installazioni siano state causate da determinati download (ad esempio, \u00e8 possibile scoprire che un file scaricato \u00e8 stato utilizzato per installare pi\u00f9 istanze del browser, il che spiega perch\u00e9 in un giorno siano state registrate troppe installazioni non coerenti con il numero di download).
