A partire dal rilascio di Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, i pacchetti deb di firefox e firefox-locale saranno sostituiti da placeholder che installeranno il pacchetto Snap con Firefox. La possibilit\u00e0 di installare il pacchetto classico in formato deb sar\u00e0 cessata e gli utenti saranno costretti a utilizzare il pacchetto proposto in formato snap o a scaricare le build direttamente dal sito di Mozilla. Gli utenti del pacchetto deb beneficeranno di un processo di transizione chiaro verso snap attraverso la pubblicazione di un aggiornamento, che installer\u00e0 il pacchetto snap e trasferir\u00e0 le attuali impostazioni dalla home dell'utente.

Ricordiamo che nella versione autunnale di Ubuntu 21.10 il browser Firefox era stato trasferito di default nella fornitura come pacchetto snap, ma la possibilit\u00e0 di installare il pacchetto deb era rimasta disponibile come opzione. Tra i lati negativi dell'uso di snap ci sono le difficolt\u00e0 nel controllo della comunit\u00e0 sui pacchetti e la dipendenza da strumenti aggiuntivi e infrastrutture di terze parti. Il processo snapd viene eseguito nel sistema con privilegi di root, il che crea ulteriori minacce in caso di compromissione dell'infrastruttura o scoperta di vulnerabilit\u00e0. Un altro svantaggio \u00e8 la necessit\u00e0 di affrontare problemi specifici legati alla distribuzione in formato snap (alcuni aggiornamenti non funzionano, emergono difetti quando si utilizza Wayland, ci sono problemi con la sessione guest e si presentano difficolt\u00e0 nell'avvio di gestori esterni). <\/p>\n

Tra le novit\u00e0 in Ubuntu 22.04 si pu\u00f2 notare anche il passaggio all'uso della sessione GNOME con Wayland per impostazione predefinita sui sistemi con driver proprietari NVIDIA (se la versione dei driver \u00e8 la 510.x o pi\u00f9 recente). Nei sistemi con GPU AMD e Intel, il passaggio a Wayland come impostazione predefinita \u00e8 avvenuto con il rilascio di Ubuntu 21.04.
