Tavis Ormandy, ricercatore della sicurezza di Google, ha portato per interesse il foglio di calcolo Lotus 1-2-3, pubblicato nel 1988, per funzionare su Linux, tre anni prima che Linux stesso fosse rilasciato. Durante il porting, \u00e8 stata effettuata un'adattamento all'interfaccia delle chiamate di sistema di Linux, \u00e8 stato assicurato il reindirizzamento delle chiamate in glibc, sono state sostituite le funzioni incompatibili e integrato un driver alternativo per l'output su terminale. \u00c8 stata inoltre aggiunta una bypass della verifica della licenza, ma Tavis possiede una copia boxata di Lotus 1-2-3 per MS-DOS e ha il diritto legittimo di utilizzare il prodotto. La creazione del port \u00e8 il primo esperimento di Tavis per eseguire Lotus 1-2-3 su Linux, dopo aver fornito un driver speciale per DOSEMU, che consentiva l'esecuzione della versione DOS di Lotus 1-2-3 su terminali moderni.
