Lo stack IPsec \u00e8 composto da due protocolli principali: il protocollo di scambio delle chiavi (IKE) e il protocollo di trasmissione del traffico crittografato (ESP). OpenIKED implementa elementi di autenticazione, configurazione, scambio di chiavi e mantenimento delle politiche di sicurezza, mentre il protocollo per la crittografia del traffico ESP \u00e8 generalmente fornito dal kernel dei sistemi operativi. Tra i metodi di autenticazione in OpenIKED possono essere utilizzate chiavi precondivise (pre-shared), EAP MSCHAPv2 con certificato X.509 e chiavi pubbliche RSA ed ECDSA.    <\/p>\n<p>Nella nuova versione \u00e8 stato aggiunto il comando \u2018ikectl show certinfo\u2019 per mostrare i certificati e le autorit\u00e0 di certificazione caricati, \u00e8 migliorato il supporto per la frammentazione dei messaggi IKEv2, sono state ampliate le possibilit\u00e0 di configurazione del flusso, \u00e8 stata aggiunta la supporto per l'isolamento dei processi in background tramite il meccanismo AppArmor
