\u00c8 stato rilasciato il distributore AlmaLinux 9.0, sincronizzato con il distributore Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 e contenente tutte le modifiche proposte in questo ramo. Il progetto AlmaLinux \u00e8 diventato il primo distributore pubblico basato sulla base di pacchetti RHEL a rilasciare versioni stabili basate su RHEL 9. Le immagini di installazione sono state prepare per le architetture x86_64, ARM64, ppc64le e s390x in forma di immagine avviabile (800 MB), minima (1,5 GB) e completa (8 GB). In seguito saranno create versioni Live con GNOME, KDE e Xfce, oltre a immagini per piattaforme Raspberry Pi, container e cloud. <\/p>\n

Il distributore \u00e8 completamente binario compatibile con Red Hat Enterprise Linux e pu\u00f2 essere utilizzato come sostituto di RHEL 9 e CentOS 9 Stream. Il sistema AlmaLinux \u00e8 stato sviluppato da CloudLinux in risposta alla cessazione prematura del supporto per CentOS 8 da parte di Red Hat (il rilascio di aggiornamenti per CentOS 8 \u00e8 stato interrotto alla fine del 2021, e non nel 2029 come inizialmente previsto dagli utenti). Il progetto \u00e8 supervisionato da una organizzazione no-profit chiamata AlmaLinux OS Foundation, creata per promuovere uno sviluppo su una piattaforma neutra, coinvolgendo la comunit\u00e0 e utilizzando un modello di governance simile a quello del progetto Fedora. Il sistema \u00e8 gratuito per tutte le categorie di utenti. Tutti i progressi di AlmaLinux sono pubblicati sotto licenze libere. <\/p>\n

Oltre ad AlmaLinux, si stanno profilando come alternative al classico CentOS anche Rocky Linux (sviluppato dalla comunit\u00e0 sotto la guida del fondatore di CentOS con il supporto di una societ\u00e0 appositamente creata chiamata Ctrl IQ), VzLinux (preparato dall'azienda Virtuozzo), Oracle Linux, SUSE Liberty Linux ed EuroLinux. Inoltre, la Red Hat ha fornito l'opportunit\u00e0 di utilizzare gratuitamente RHEL nelle organizzazioni dedicate allo sviluppo di software open source e negli ambienti di singoli sviluppatori che contano fino a 16 sistemi virtuali o fisici.
